Responsive genes in Aegilops Speltoides (accession pau 3809) and Triticum aestivum (accession pau C273)
Wheat is a grass of the genus Triticum(family Poaceae) , one of the oldest and most important of the cereal crops globally. In 2019/2020, the world wheat production amounted to over 765 million metric tons . It was an increase of over 30 million tons compared to the previous year according to international grain council. The many species of wheat together make up the genus Triticum; the most widely grown is common wheat (T. aestivum), also known as bread wheat, is a cultivated wheat species.More than 95% of wheat produced worldwide is common wheat and the most widely grown of all crops and the cereal with the highest monetary yield.Aegilops speltoides is an edible plant in the family Poaceae native to Southeastern Europe and Western Asia, which is often used for animal feed, and it has grown in cultivated beds. This plant is an important natural source disease resistance in wheat.
RNA Seq data of Triticum aestivum (accession pau C273) and Aegilops speltoides (accession pau 3809) were used for the study. Genes involved in heat stress were identified through the transcripts inter-comparison of the Aegilops speltoides and Triticum aestivum.
